Here we are the 16th of August 2008 joining with the several other Healing Place Church’s worldwide to have the largest OUTREACH in our churches’ 15 year history! The name is Servolution and the theme is to reach the lost and hurting by showing God’s love in a tangible way. So for HPC Swazi we started where the need is most, in the poorest area of the community here in Mbabane, Msunduza. Our outreach was to 3 separate widows in the area, 2 households that were in desperate need of repairing and of course to the children of the community.
Our arrival was a very, very rare site for the people of Msunduza. First of all there was almost 70 volunteers- all wearing bright, red SERVE shirts, most of them young adults around 15 to 25 years old. So as the kombis unloaded and people spread like the plague, gathering tools, getting rubbish bags filled and moving door frames through the homestead area- you can definitely say we were sparking people’s curiosity.
When did caring about other people become such a foreign idea?
Well everyone dove right in. Zinty and some others started the Kids Club which drew in almost 100 children of all ages. There was dancing, singing and most of all THE PRESENCE OF JESUS right there in the middle of what one can call the “African ghetto”. Others cleaned the area where Children’s Cup is planning on starting their 18th Carepoint, as of now ! Everyone was of one accord. Fellowshipping, laughing, praying for people’s needs, giving out food to the households we tended to… the day was nothing short of amazing and all for the sake of His name!
Karl, one of our interns from Zimbabwe, led a team from our Children’s church and went to a local orphanage to serve it up Jesus Style! With 30 little helpers and 4 adults they were able to clean the garden there and plant seedlings for the Make’ (mother) of the children at the orphanage. The children blessed the children with singing, praying and of course SWEETS!!!
The day was concluded with of course, the Swazi staple, lots of KFC chicken or as the Swazi’s call it “yama”.
All together the day was one that can be expressed as “passing on the love that God has poured into all of us”. We thank all of the people who pray for us and thank God for all of you!
is happening this weekend!!! We have a couple of “NEW’ ways to reach the people of Swaziland so stay tuned in to the blog to see ALL that happened!!! “Showing God’s love in a tangible WAY…. now that is serving”.
Streets on FIRE!!!
We had our very first outreach event last Saturday the 26th! It was a special day here, we had guests from our home church in the States, Healing Place, with the addition of a few ladies from the Life Church in Memphis.
For two days prior we pumped the Streets on Fire outreach at the four schools that we assisted with basketball clinics at here in Mbabane. Our turnout was excellent! We had close to 500 people here to play B-ball, enjoy the music hosted by local DJ’s and to participate in the dancing contest that was happening all for the cause of the Jesus! The outreach definitely served it’s purpose!
We had almost 100 new visitors to the church the following Sunday.
The event is one of many that we will be putting on to be a “healing place for a hurting world”.
